Giza vista dal radarGiza seen by radar Sentinel-1 e Capella, due verificheSentinel-1 and Capella, two tests

Here we reimplemented it from scratch and applied it to public data: a stack of Sentinel-1 images and two Capella spotlight takes. The project pages say what was done, how, what is actually measured and where the data fall short.

43 Sentinel-1 images from the same orbit track, January to September 2026. From the small differences in the satellite’s position between passes, the height of whatever reflects the radar is estimated pixel by pixel.

Che cosa abbiamo fatto, in poche paroleWhat we did, in short

A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) illuminates the ground from the side and records the amplitude and phase of the echo. The phase carries the distance, and so the height, of whatever reflects.

  1. Sentinel-1: molte date, bassa risoluzione.
  2. Sentinel-1: many dates, low resolution. 43 passes from slightly different positions form a virtual antenna 297 m tall. Enough to measure the height of the desert, not to separate layers inside a pyramid.
  4. Capella: two dates, high resolution. Two X-band spotlight takes, already in raw form (CPHD): the images are refocused and the Biondi Protocol v1.9 is applied, column by column, to the three pyramids.
